How to Sponsor a Candidate
To introduce someone to membership, you must complete a Membership Proposal form, which can be downloaded by clicking here or may be picked up from Membership Services located on the 12th Floor of the City House or in the Accounting Office at Travers Island. If your candidate requires a Club tour, this may be arranged at their convenience by contacting Membership Services at (212) 767-7025 or [email protected].
The Membership Proposal form must be filled out and signed by the prospective member, one proposer and two endorsers. Proposers and endorsers must be current members for at least one year. Members in the "Athletic," "Child of Member" (16 and 17 years of age) and "Olympic Medalist" categories may not propose or endorse candidates. Proposers are required to include a letter of recommendation and return this with the application. Although endorsers are not required to submit a letter of recommendation, they are welcome. Candidates must also complete a background check - an e-mail link is to follow once forms are submitted. Please make sure the social security number is included.
The completed proposal should be sent to the New York Athletic Club, Membership Services Office at 180 Central Park South, New York, NY 10019. Original proposals that are not completed in their entirety will not be accepted.

The Application Process
Once the Membership Proposal form is submitted in its entirety, a background check is conducted. Following this, the candidate's name must be circulated to current Club members, which is issued in member's statements and posted in the City House Lobby. The candidate and his/her Proposer will be invited to appear for an interview with the Membership Committee (both the candidate and proposer will receive an e-mailed invitation with the date and time); traditionally the interview is the first Monday of the month. The proposer is required to attend and in the proposer's absence the endorser can attend. Upon request and approval "special interviews" can be arranged if the candidate and proposer cannot attend the monthly one. After the interview, the candidate's name will be presented for approval at the next Board of Governors meeting, generally the third Tuesday of the month.
Upon acceptance, a letter and statement listing the initiation fee and dues is e-mailed to the candidate. Upon receipt of payment by mail or in person, the new member will be issued an audit number and may begin to use the Club facilities. Payments can only be accepted in the form of a check; cash and credit cards are never permitted. A new member must visit the Membership Services Office located on the 12th floor to obtain his/her photo ID membership card and to complete a new member orientation, which typically takes 20-30 minutes.

Obtaining a spouse card

Spouses are allowed to sign for charges using the member's audit number/house account. The member is responsible for charges incurred by their spouse and any guests.
An application for a Spousal Privilege Card (obtained by the Membership Services Office) must be completed and signed by both the member and spouse and returned along with a copy of the marriage certificate.
Spousal use of the City House athletic facilities is subject to the same restrictions as other guests; one visit in a three month period when accompanied by the member. If a guest card is requested for a spouse, subject to same guest rules, the 14 days in the course of one year.
